Designed for travelers who want to observe wildlife respectfully, this program layers day and night excursions around the Tarapoto system.
We keep groups small to minimize impact while maximizing time with dolphins, primates, and rare birds.
Day 1
Receive a warm airport welcome before taking the road toward Tarapacá and hiking to the Wayruru community. Meet the shaman, learn about sacred rituals, enjoy a traditional lunch, visit the chagra, and help prepare dinner. After dark a night walk reveals bioluminescent mushrooms and nocturnal wildlife.
Day 2
After breakfast at the maloca we take a taxi and boat ride to the Marasha Reserve in Peru. Hike 1 hour 45 minutes from the river to the lodge, learning about timber and medicinal trees plus bird species. After lunch you can piranha fish, birdwatch, canoe, or kayak, followed by an evening canoe outing to search for caimans.
Day 3
Departing from Marasha, ride an hour by boat to the Ticuna community of Mario Rivera and set up camp. We visit Monkey Island, a 450-hectare nature reserve located about 20–35 km from Leticia on the Amazon River. It is famous for its large population of squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus) that interact with visitors. After lunch we search for pink dolphins, then continue deeper into the forest for a night walk focused on tarantulas, insects, and amphibians before dinner and rest in rooms with mosquito nets.
Day 4
We’ll have breakfast early and take the boat back to Leticia, a journey of about two hours, before dropping you at your hotel or airport.
